Determining the cause of PR 0

what did it?

I have just found out one of our sites has a PR 0, but my question is:

What caused it?

We never do anything 'illegal' what so ever. Straight up optimization.

Please help me to determine what caused this. I have never been involved with a PR 0 and want to know what makes it happen. If you have any indicators which would cause a PR 0 to occur, please post them.

Does the site have adequate linkage from other sites, and has it been around long enough to be properly ranked? Was its PR previously higher?

If you think it is really a PR0 penalty and the site previously had better PR, I'd check for outbound links to sites that are penalized, for starters. One or two bad links shouldn't kill you, but it's worth a peek. I find sites I link to are constantly going bad, with some being turned into spam sites.

Also, be sure nobody has done anything tricky when you weren't looking, or there are no vestiges of some past optimization effort still present.

I rather suspect that any of us practicing the black arts of optimization stand a chance of overstepping the mark in the the sand that the nice people from Google have drawn this month (which may, or may not, be different from last month's line in the sand, or next month's)

I had a couple of sites "penalized" by Google last year, which have now returned to where they were before.

I have no idea what I did to incur their corporate wrath, but I never felt it was worthwhile trying to debate it with them. My conscience was, in any rate clear. In the fullness of time it all put itself right. Funny thing Google!

My Site had PR6 for one month then PR5 for 3 months and finally in December I got a graybar, i was told maybe the swrver was down when google was crawling, so i waited another month to see what will happen, I still has the graybar after 2 updates and i am hoping this update will change things.

I wrote google to ask them, i was very impressed to see a reply in 12 hours, but that did not solve the problem or told me what was wrong, I do not have any links from my site to any other site and i have about 94 links to my site (I know i need more but that should count for somthing).

For a site to go from PR5 to no PR there must be somthing wrong and not nessesry with my site, but i wish i could know what wrong and i hope this is not going to last toolong.
