O'Reilly has published a book titled Google Hacks [webmasterworld.com] (February 2003 - 352 pages). I have yet to get my hands on this book but I did see the Linux Hacks book which actually a very well written book from a glance containing tons of information actually useful. This book has 100 industrial-strength (whatever that means) tips and tricks for Google.

Google Hacks is a collection of industrial-strength, real-world, tested solutions to practical problems. The book offers a variety of interesting ways for power users to mine the enormous amount of information that Google has access to, and helps you have fun while doing it. You'll learn clever and powerful methods for using the advanced search interface and the new Google API, including how to build and modify scripts that can become custom business applications based on Google. Google Hacks contains 100 tips, tricks and scripts that you can use to become instantly more effective in your research. Each hack can be read in just a few minutes, but can save hours of searching for the right answers.

Has anyone seen this book yet, there are sample chapters on their site. So its not a book to getting #1 on the search engines although im betting it does touch submission ;) GoogleAPI information may be informative.

Brett's actually got two things in the book: 26 Steps to 15K a day and a Webmaster's introduction to Google.

There are four "beta hacks" available from the book [oreilly.com]. If you've got any questions about the book, feel free to ask me.

Hi RBuzz,

I am new to this board however not new at all to the internet or basic SEO strategies.

A friend referred me here.

You mention "Brett" in your post. Do you know him? Also does he verify that he makes 15K a day by showing any proof?

Im not putting him down or doubting that he does, things can get taken so wrong via text, I personally know people that make bucket loads on the net.

I am just curious if he provides verifiable proof or gives tips on HOW he does it.

Regards,

Jim L.

Hey jamesdj1 Welcome to WebmasterWorld,

I know him :). Brett_Tabke is the person who runs the site. He is not talking about money, but visitors. 15,000 visitors a day from Google. Here is the thread in question:

LOL..Yes, great stuff here and I am glad you clarifed the 15K a day.

I've seen marketers bring in that kind of money once in a while so it caught my eye :-)

The book looks like a great value if you know coding and java and all that but heck...im just a little marketer who is nothing without those that can do programming :-)

thanks again,

Jim

A lot of people here are marketers and not programmers. You will find that most here are interested in getting the best results they can in the engines no matter what they do. And again welcome Jim. :)

".im just a little marketer who is nothing without those that can do programming..."

That is where you are wrong.

I can barely do simple HTML without referring to a book, but with a lot of tips from here and other places, I have gotten our main sites and ecommerce sites on the first page for the majority of importan keywords - and #1 for a few. Generally FAR ahead of the competition - usually the sites ahead of us are government and/or edu sites.

Our sites are pretty much java free, except for a few things like menu buttons that Frontpage puts in.
Like the FAQ sheet says - keep it simple - especially if you are selling something.

The book actually contains two types of hacks: there are "programming" hacks, which involve programming, natch. Most of these are in Perl. Some of them are in Python, Java, etc. Even if you are not a programmer you might find these hacks useful, since many of them are already set up online.

The other type of hack is the "technique" hack, which discusses how to do a particular thing with Google -- find directories, make the most of the news search, use inurl: vs site: properly, etc.

It's also got a pretty complete collection of pointers to all those fun games like googlefight, googlewhacking, etc. I'm looking forward to getting a copy on my shelf. :)

There's no time for fun games right now GG. You're supposed to be busy pushing the danged red button.
