back links and anchor text

can you guys tell me what these are? How do apply them? How can you tell if someone is using them?

Back links: a site which links to another site; if I link my site to your site when you view your site in google it will show up as a backlink. To view backlinks for a site type in "link:http://www.thedomain.com/" in the google search bar.

Link text is the text displayed on a web page which links to another site. So if you see a site with a link which says "click here for fun" and "click here for fun" is the link on the page the link text will be "click here for fun".
