Whatever Happened To Theming?

I remember back a year ago or maybe longer, the conventional wisdom was that a site needed to have a common theme throughout the pages. A young guy called Tabke was a keen advocate if I remember correctly.

Now that Google dominates the se world and individual pages, not sites, are given PR, does theming still have a part to play?

I think theming is still very much alive and kicking. It is in my view all about usability and navigational ease.

Most major sites are themed so you know how to get around and get comfortable with the look.

The BBC, CNN etc are all good examples.

You can have several themes within a site. Nothing wrong with that. Its just harder to be considered an authority (internal inbound - and external inbound linking wise) with just a few pages on one theme.
