Nope. Yahoo will buy Overture.
Didn't Y! just buy Inktomi? Why would they need another SE? It seems to me Overture buying FAST would make it less likely that Yahoo would buy Overture. FAST adds to the cost Yahoo would have to pay and the benefit is small because of their purchase of Inktomi. Overture without FAST would be more appealing to Yahoo, IMO.
They will all be integrated into msn with google.com, overture.com and all the other regional domain names being redirected to msn.com (or regional alternative).
The algo's will be adjusted so that any content served on non Microsoft Webservers will be penalised in the serps.
Yes such a beautiful world could be a reality.
<sarcasm>Just in case you didn't pick it up.</sarcasm>
But along with adding to the cost, it adds to the value.
My point was that Yahoo having Inktomi reduces the value of having FAST also, so the increase cost they would have to pay would not be returned to them in value to their business.
This move by Overture may have been their way of saying "we're not for sell".
They have lawyers running around telling webmasters to not refer to "google" as a verb synonymous with search.
That would be their trademark counsel whose specific job it is to do just that.
I would venture a guess that any major trademarked entity would have these guys on staff. I'm not a major entity, but I've had my lawyer run down a couple of improper uses of my trademark. It's part of what you have to do to maintain the trademark.
By the way, I just loved "Earth Died Screaming"! ;)
