Just got a really great link exchange for our non-profit website with a Page Rank of a 9. However the link looks like this:

<A HREF="javascript:GoTo('http://www.mysite.com')">

I know this exchange will bring new traffic from their site, however will it help our page rank?

I don't think it will count as a backlink.

Its not a proper URL, its a JavaScript function call, so Google can not read it as a referring URL. Hence, no PR will be passed, unfortunately.

I was recently messing around looking at my site's backlinks, and saw evidence that suggests (but does not prove) that Google will recgnize that URL and treat it the same as a straight link.

If you remove the "http://", it does NOT recognize the URL.

It isn't that hard to test; you basically just have to make sure the linking page has adequate PR and that the link has been in place for a few indexing cycles (I am not sure that one cycle is enough for all backlinks to be credited). Has anyone else looked at this? What did you find?
