I'm an update newbie & I've searched but can't find the exact answer. My new site has been crawled & freshbotted but nothing in the last 12 hours so I'm anxiously awaiting my 1st possible index. :)

I need to make some significant keyword changes for Ink; With the pending dance, is this a bad time or is it the right time to make these kind of changes?

actually, the index hasnt begun until now.
imho you should do updates before it will start, then youve got the new keywords indexed.

Changes to your site are spotted by the monthly "deep crawl", and don't show up in the listings until the next major update after that. So any changes you make before the next deep crawl will show-up in the index around the end of March.

However, if you are lucky enough to get Freshbot'd, and when Freshbot listings are active, then changes can show-up in the listings within 12-48 hours! However, these chances are unstable, and can bounce in and out of the listings until they are caught by the regular update process described above. Also, typically only some of your pages of your site will get Freshbot'd.

You can tell which pages got Freshbot updated by looking for a date between the page size and the Cached link at the bottom of a listing. If you don't see ANY Freshbot dates in Google (even when you do a search like "CNN"), then Freshbot listings are not active.

With regards to your site, go ahead and make your changes now.
