Keep in mind, this was a new site.
I tried it with my existing site that is already indexed, and it didn't work.
Thought it was pretty neat though. I don't know if this has already been discussed or not.
Cheers.

Doh, just found it in preferences.. so back to the topic at hand. Vote Yes caused googlebot to visit your new site?
So the Smiley button adds a site to Google.
That's kind of jumping to a conclusion isn't it? Even if it's the case that the voting button brings a googlebot visit to an unindexed site, it doesn't necessarily follow that the site is then added to the index.
Now, if Bio4ce's new site recieves no more googlebot visits between now and the next update, and then appears in the index... then I'll be with you. :)
btw, Bio4ce, was the site fully crawled, or was the visit just to the index page?
Many web hosting services offer detailed visitor stats or logs. They will indicate among other things the visitor (user-agent string), the visitor's IP address, date and time of visit, referring page/website, page requested, server code, visitor's browser and visitor's OS.
Google's web crawler is identitified by the user-agent string Googlebot/2.0 (+http://www.googlebot.com/bot.html). You can differentiate between the monthly Googlebot spider by the IP 216.239.46.*** and the Google Freshbot spider that visits more frequently by the IP 64.68.82.** .
Ted
but i think its because ummmmmmm google is updating, and no matter what buttons you press google will show up? just for laughs go to your car, honk your horn and see how long google bot takes to come on your site
Good point. Because the freshbot's been hitting my main site for the past couple of hours too, and I didn't hit any voting buttons. The closest I've come is reading this thread. Think there's a connection? :)
Thanks for information about IP.
I manage 2 servers and don't need support from housing farm.
I usually add a piece of code only in home page of my site(am i wrong?) and control if http_user_agent is googlebot.
Then i put the informations(ip, date, domain scanned) in a table for statistics.
I think i have to add to all pages, but when they are static(i.e .htm)?
Either way, I've been working on the site for a long time and never had any visit at all. Strange that after I hit the vote button, deepcrawler(216) appears half hour later.
GoogleGuy denied that the toolbar has anything to do with getting crawled. As far as I know he has yet to admit it.
Going to come clean and let us know whats really going on?
I'm pretty convinced that the smiley faces called the googlebot. Maybe I got lucky being that we are in the middle of the crawl for the next update. Maybe it doesn't happen all the time.
I just know that it happened twice. I hit the vote button, the googlebot came. I hit it again later, noting the time at 10:56. The googlebot came at 11:32.
No links, no anything. Fresh site with not a hint of visitors or bots in the entire time it was on the server...until I hit the smiley face that is.
:)
Why not? If someone reading this thread has a new or unlinked site, they can enable the Google toolbar and visit their site... then keep an eye out for Googlebot. If it doesn't show up within - say - a few hours, then click a vote button and see if that does anything. It's just breaking down what you did into two steps.
I'm mostly just curious, since incoming links have taken care of my current needs to get indexed, and I don't have any brand-new sites to test myself. All information is good!
