google bot behaviour ...

i have noticed that many sites show up higher on search engines without even getting a page rank....what is it that google likes about such sites that it ranks them up higher in the serps....
also i ahve noticed that many websites with very little content are rankign much much higher than sites with some content..whats the reason?...i have been unable to figure out google bot's behaviour and its way or ranking sites..please help me out here a little...thanx.

If you're not using the library and the WebmasterWorld site search, you are missing out on a lot of information...

Just goes to show that page rank of only part of the algo.

I have always thought that as page rank increased the dependancy on it through the algo also increases. for example 2 pages about widgets one has a pr1 the other has a pr2 the pr1 page has more keyword density so ranks higher that the page rank 2 site. then we have another 2 pages on foo. one page with pr8 the other with pr9 the pr8 is more on topic but the pr9 site still rises above in the serps so long as is is still relevant.
