How many pages of my site are indexed in Google?

Does this method work

I am running a large ecommerce site with over 20,000 pages. Every page of the site has a unique text string in an include file, listed only once.

To gain a fair estimate of the number of pages indexed in Google, I have been submitting this phrase in quotations in the Google toolbar, then hitting "Search Site". A sizable number of unique pages turn up in the SERPs, which appears to reflect the total number of pages indexed in Google.

Does anyone know why this may or may not be a good method of determining total pages indexed? Once again, I'm using a highly targetted 7-word phrase that appears on every page of our site.

Try this in the search box:

site:www.yourdomain.com inurl:*

There is no space after the ":" but there is one after the domain name.

fiestagirl - thank you. This tells me what I need to know.

The results from both methods are identical!
