Is PR0 always a bad thing?

I created a new site early January. It was crawled in mid Jan. Only the front page of the site was indexed in Feb. The front page had PR4, all other pages were unranked. A couple of days ago, I had a few temporary deeper pages listed that disappeared, and I started getting traffic. This temporary listing has happened to me before, but once they are disappear, they go back to pagerank of unranked. This time they have gone to a PR0. Should I worry about this?

I wouldn't worry kryton, it's probably just that Googlebot didn't find any links to you during the last crawl from any high PageRank pages.

Pages that come in to the index, hang around for two to three days and then disappear again are the hallmark of the freshbot.

Although I don't know for sure, I agree with ciml.

I have been noticing more PR0 pages lately. And I have been wondering if all it means is that the page has no links, or only 1 or 2 PR1 or PR2 links to the page.

I used to think PR0 was always a penalty, but now I think that it just means there is little or nothing linking to the page.

I am curious to hear what others believe...

PR0 sometimes means PR0 and sometimes means PR<1. There's no way to tell! ;)

I am slightly worried because I linked from a celebrity/movie site to an education site. However, I did this with a what I believe is a common gateway page. i.e. page about film schools on the movie/celebrity site which then also linked to a site about schools for other subjects other than just film schools.

One dodgy link shouldn't affect anything. And if the pages are somewhat related ("schools" in the page title or a head tag, mentioned somewhere close to the link, etc., on both pages) it might actually be a good one.

In this site's case it might actually be coming up in the world -- from a gray bar "not rated" to a PR<1 "slightly rated."

Many folks believe -- and it does look like -- that the Google toolbar rounds PR down. An actual PR 5.4 would show as PR5. Similarly, PR.2 shows as PR0.

I don't even think that link sounds dodgy. What you seem to be missing is a number of links. Get links, get into the index. I think that's where you should focus your attention.

DMOZ, Yahoo, friendly sites, etc.

As far as I can tell, negative PR values show as PR0 too.

on a log scale, a negative value is just a raw value of less than one

It's normal for Google to take a couple of update cycles before it gives internal pages a proper PR. I have a new site that first got into the index during the December update (Jan 1st). The index page became PR5 and internal pages PR0. After the January update, the internal pages got their proper PR ranking.
