Dropped from Google - Starting over

Best approach on starting fresh with a new domain?

After 4 months out of Google, I want to begin exploring options for "starting over".

Assuming the old domain was banned from Google, some questions:

1. In addition to obtaining a new domain, is a new IP address necessary? New hosting provider?

2. Is it OK to set up a page at the old domain informing people of the change to the new domain & linking to it, or is it necessary to kill the old domain altogether?

3. Anything else I should be aware of?

Thanks!

Rob

May I start by asking why you think you have been banned? I ask because the last thing you want to do is repeat the error.

Startup -- two issues: we had three domains that we had registered over the years all pointing to the same site & we had several pages with white text.

Mmmmm, it's a shame as it's a nice looking site with a good domain name. Although I notice you did use some keyword stuffing on your page a little while ago. Still, it's a bit harsh to get a full ban for doing this. Unless you did other things?

If you absolutely have to, a new domain name should be fine. You shouldn't need to change your hosting provider.

I would suggest putting up a "We have moved to blahblah.com etc" text on a page but not hyperlinking directly to your new site as the Googlebot would follow that link and possibly still think it's associated with whatever you did to get the ban in the first place.

And, of course, do not risk your site again with any naughtiness... Remember, Google sees all! ;)

One more question if you don't mind. Do you pay yearly for your Yahoo listing?
If you register new domains don't use the same name. At one time Google claimed to keep domain information for 37 years. Don't link to or from the banned sites. Starting fresh mean taking certain precautions.

I was told to e-mail googlebot@google.com and tell them about the error. Tell what you did wrong, and show them that it was fixed.

I have no idea if this works or not.. because I just did it like 3 weeks ago, and the person said it would be like 6 - 8 weeks before I was thrown back into the loop.

It might not work... But it sure is worth a try!
