Do I have to pay? (again!)

I have a new dot.co.uk site and it has just had its first visits from Googlebot so I expect it to be in Google on the next update. I understand that Google now provides listings for Yahoo. Will my new site automatically be considered if I do a Yahoo search or are the non payers filtered out of Yahoo results to show only those that pay the £200 entry fee.
Thanks in advance.

Yahoo used to have results seperated by directory and webpages.

If you did a search for widgets - you would only get the paid pages from their directory (ok - not all are paid - but you know what I mean)

Then there was a link at the bottom that said webpages that would give you results from google.

Now the teo are mixed in, but you can still get directory
only results by clicking on directory.

So to answer your question - you will automatically be included in the default yahoo results if you are in google. You might not have the same position - as they mix the two.

Thanks Chris, but does that mean that I will be better positioned if I pay the fee?

Well JudgeJeffries, no one would pay Yahoo £200 if it wouldn't make a different to their listing for a search on Yahoo - think about it ...

Well for all I know, no one is paying any more.
Unfortunately Yahoo don't let me into their turnover secrets so I have no idea. So is it a yes or a no?

It is a maybe and is a matter of how much you want to spend/risk.

It isn't guaranteed to help your ranking, but I can't imagine it would hurt it.

If you have the money to spend - go ahead and do it. If money is tight - see where you end up without it. Then decide later.

My understanding is that if you pay it won't help with your rankings in the default serp. But obviously if you do pay you are going to have a listing in the Y! directory (hopefully)and that helps with PR. So imo and like Chris_R mentioned,if you have the extra money spend it, otherwise wait and see where you end up

Consider that the Yahoo directory is like DMOZ in the sense that it is a listing on a relatively high PR static page. So getting a listing in Yahoo also has PR benefits. IMHO, paying to get into the Yahoo directory is worthwhile for sites in the early stages.

Thank you both.
The PR point is a valid one so far as I'm concerned so I'll probably pay notwithstanding that I paid for an identical, now abandoned, dot.info site a few months ago, which was dropped from regional listings as a result of Googles involvement.
Requests to Yahoo to switch domains has fallen on deaf ears which makes me think that I and any number of others who would like a regional presence at least in the directory (with the added PR benefits) have been hung out to dry.

Judging by how many new listings are being added on a daily basis you may want to go with the mainstream just to be safe.

[dir.yahoo.com...]

I always list, especially for new sites to provide a strong backlink and ensure the Googlebot visit. Also a little known fact, once you list with Yahoo you suddenly get listed within Alta Vista because AV crawls Yahoo! new additions..this is good because AV is notoriously slow to index.
