Looks Google is rasing the bar on PR

I have noticed alot of PR 8 are now 7's and that there are alot of PR 6's that look like they would have been 7's a few months ago (1,000 + links). Anyone else noticing this?

Haven't noticed anything special, seen a few sites which have dropped form PR8 to PR7 but they've all been close the edge before.

Haven't seen any drops in my sites. Still have a PR8 on one, and mostly 6s on the others...

But, consider this...as more and more sites are added to the net and more and more sites are optimized, it only makes sense that they will be some shuffle. Perhaps some new sites are finally out-performing some of the old-timers...

I haven't added many new links since spring, when I had a PR of 5 on my main page. In summer my site, and many of my competitors, went up ons step in PR for one or two months (cannot recall which, think one month) and dropped back in lockstep. So we did drop recently, but from what now looks like a temporarily inflated value.

I have noticed a number of PR 7 and PR 6 sites in the last month that have dropped. Most os these sites have been static since I have started monitoring them 6 months ago so I do see a general drop in PR.

There is not really a specific area that I have noticed, I work in alot of different fields. I think overall.

Also...during this past update, the latest worm brought a lot of servers down. Backward links would drop if sites with links to yours are unavailable for spidering...

Still 5's and 6's here. Though there has been talk of dmoz 'local' clones being down-graded.

That doesn't apply to this update. This update is tied to the spidering you received in the last week of December (first week of January?).

Server outages won't have an effect.

We have a number of travel sites with a PR7 (see profile for an instance) - all (without exception) have retained their PR7 status, and I would imagine one or two are lowish PR7's...

Over the whole I have seen many PR6 sites with many inward links go down to PR 5 and many PR4 with very few links go up to PR 5. I have checked the quality on incoming links and this is not the cause.

I noticed it also. On one of my main sites we dropped from a PR7 to a PR6 however our serps incresed for our most competative term...go figure...so I'm not too concerned about it. meanwhile nothing changed on the site and even when we were a PR7...we were only showing 288 backlinks.

I have seen sites I ahve been following, who would have been PR7 a few months ago, simply go upto PR6 and not higher.

I only had joy in the January update.. my site went from a PR6 to a PR7, with about 5 subpage inheriting the PR7 also.. my backlinks are 442.

Oh, and that is squarely in the travel sector too.
