Deep Crawl vs Update

I am confused (not surprising). I am now see people waiting for the "Deep Crawl" insead of the "Update". What is the difference between the two?

When does the PR change, update? Has that already happened?or is that with the Deep Crawl?

The deep crawl happens at the beginning of the month - the various incarnations of Googlebot crawl the web and crawl sites in depth (hence deep crawl). At the end of the month, the Google index is updated with the results of that deep crawl.

So we've just enjoyed the update for the end of January and now everyone is looking forward to the deep crawl due at the beginning of February. Results from that crawl will turn up in the index in the update at the end of February.
