Hello All! I have learned a lot reading this form... thanks so much for all the info!

Generally, do .org sites rank any differently in google? I've noticed .com and .net and .us domains in a lot of top spots, but not many .org and there are some very choice .org domains available. Any advice on this?

Thanks!

no difference.

With respect to ranking many commercial sites use SEO companies to assist in ranking, .org's normally associated with not-for-profit do not.

This is also very dependent on what you search for - many .org's are on top of informative queries and less on product or service queries.

Welcome to Webmasterworld, AlKikuras.

My one and only site is a .org and is #1 on Google, and close to #1 on Inktomi and Fast, with only 5 real backlinks, one of them DMOZ. The competition is only 3 other sites, and they're all friends or colleagues. I would think .org sites, by virtue of them being mainly non-commercial, might often have the same pattern depending on the subject. Good question though... I don't know how things would be with a .com or.net etc...

Dot orgs. are fine. In fact I've seen as of this last update that dot anythings ( .at .ar .ph etc.) work just as well as any other top level domains.

I think .edu used to have top billing and people were running out to their local jr colleges for websapce...but now, they're all the same.
