Changing content on a page

How much, how often?

I'm wondering about effect and wisdom of changing (freshening) content on pages. Since even seemingly small changes can have a big affect on serps, the question is...

how much is too much?

Is there a percentage of a page that should never change (other than nav and id stuff) if it works?

Is it advisable to have a small section on a home, or other major page, that changes frequently to attract the freshbot? If so, how big a section?

I'm thinking of a "Feature/story/whatever of the Day/Week" type thing, but there may well be other considerations.

Ken, I don't see why you should need to worry. If you make changes then you may get a fresh listing, if you don't then you should keep your current listing. If the changes are small then it seems unlikely that there will be much difference.

There have been a small number of reports of people finding that their Fresh listings are well below their normal position. But if it was at all common we would have had many reports here I'm sure.

Ciml; Thanks. What got me thinking about this was a comment by Brett (I think) a few days ago about a site that had such a section and saw their postion go up and down noticeably.

Maybe I just worry to much.......... :)

I like adding more pages that are related to the site, going into detail. I try not to change the mix on the older pages that do okay.

I've found that even very small changes will keep the freshbot coming and also keep a ranking high for a particular search term.

i have a 'latest offers' section on the home page with a few items and prices. change it every 3/4 days and gets the fresh bot and ranks well. dont know if it improves the rankings or not but it helps for repeat clients if your home page is different everytime someone visits IMO.

take WW home page for example. just an update every day or two on the most interesting threads. easy to do and it works!
