mirror sites have same PR and same backlinks?

I've come across two mirror sites, same PR (PR6 even) and when I check the backlinks using link:www.domain1.com and link:www.domain2.com I get the same number of backlinks and the first 3 pages are the same backlinks and same order.

That leads me to assume that they have the exact same backlinks. There's one Google directory backlink that shows for both and when I check the category only one of them is listed. It's almost as if Google knows they have the same contents and treats them as if they're one.

I have surfed through both sites and at all times I find myself on the respective domain (no gateways, redirect etc).

Has anyone come across this or can explain this?

hi bluecorr,

a lot of people report this. it seems that google can treat such pages as one. but sometimes, this is not the fact. so the algo is not 100% perfect.

I just checked one that shows the same for two domain names. One is a 301 redirect to the other. One is treated exactly as though it's the other, Google knows it's the same site.

The case you're looking at may be different, but you can check.

I went to google to do a link search and when I put in www.wiget.com, I got back result for some other site. If I put my mouse over the "Find web pages that link to" part of the results, it has a different site in the(yellow little pop-up window thing). Its like the two sites have been linked together by google and counted as one(with the biggest one showing up for search terms and the other not) any clues?

In my case there no redirect involved (I think) at all times I find myself surfing each separate domain. Plus, they even have the same PR so why doesn't the duplicate content filter act?
