Thanks for reading this.

If I search for WIDGETS COUNTRY, is there anything I can do about sites that come up in in the results that are not related to the country concerned.

In the search term I compete for, there are two sites that cannot offer a service in my country, but still rank highly.

Thanks in advance for any advice

There is nothing you can do to change the Google algo. Nothing in this world is perfect and this is just another example of how there may be room in this world for a competing search engine. Google may currently be the best but there will undoubtedly be a replacement at some point in the future.

Remember when Yahoo appeared on the scene? I remember telling people to get onto Yahoo to find things. Some respond, no thanks I don't have yahoo in my computer and I'm not going to pay for another service!

IMHO, there is plenty of room for country specific search engines/indexes.

How can you establish that a site cannot offer a service in a given country?

Also, the Google results are not only about actually offering a service, its also about offering information on a service.

I suppose the national Google.tld's with their "only results from this country" will weed out these competitors as well?

Thanks for your replys, and to answer your questions:

My service is travel related, and therefore very geographically specific (Ireland). Some of these sites are multi national travel sites, but do not supply the service in Ireland. I can appreciate that google is only offering information on a service, but how do these website rank so highly on the search term WIDGET COUNTRY if they are not specifically optimised for this search term?

I have checked the google.tld which is specific to Ireland, but it just gives the same results.

Thanks for you help.
