Hi everybody there,

I am working on a site's search engine optimization. I have seen that on certain keywords my site is 1st, 2nd, or 3rd position on google. But when I ran web position gold report mission it shows that my site has not any ranking even on above mentioned keywords.

Is this google's tactics against web position gold?

Please someone help me out of this matter.

atadams: I don't think the purpose of the rangerank meter is to provide useful information. It is to get us to have the word Google in front of our faces all day and to embed the idea that Google offers some magic that Fast and AltaVista are lacking. And it works.

Guess the "safe" way would be -use
A)an uninterested friends dial-up connection
+
B)proxy server/anonimizer
+
C)third party web based ranking-checker
Dont forget to wear a disguise too!:)

"About WPG (not that I use it or anything)........"

are google-dance and google-dance-tool considered rank checking "software"? I have a couple of multi searches bookmarked, like I have some regular Google searches bookmarked... this is just using a webpage but since those two aren't official google pages are they no-nos?

If you really sit down and think about it, I think YES they are considered in the same as WPG - because it queries Google 3 or 4 times on different levels.. Good point!

About saying WPG didnt report any results, its a bug in their software. V. 2.0 didnt display the results on the keyword sheet but on the others it did so email WPG about this matter. :)

Rank checkers are kind of passe, are they not?

I mean, a couple of years ago, that was the prime selling tool. Offer a free position report from your web site and attract just about everyone from who knows where. Believe it or not, it's still a hot selling tool. So much so, that the newly acquainted SEO will happily offer you a free keyword ranking report. They'll even show you reports right from their site complete with Google Results!

I stopped running reports around December 2001. I used to offer one of those free ranking reports from my personal site too. Guess what, I think someone from one of the major SE's posed as a potential client and had me run a report or two. Hehehe, snitched on myself!

I've learned over the years that accurate detailed statistics are worth far more than any ranking report. If you're client is realizing an ROI from their web marketing campaign, then that should be enough for most. The detailed statistics are going to show you exactly what type of success your campaign is achieving. If they want ranking reports, just have them do a search in any of the major SE's for "free ranking report" and they can have one done.

The risk far outweighs any benefits! ;)

Something that I haven't seen mentioned...

I would think that in addition to concerns about server load, one of Google's main concerns about position checking software would be the corruption of its search statistics, of the sort we see with Overture data.
