How to check manually for PR on a Mac?

Following the very recent PR discussion, it was mentioned that the Toolbar is the best way to check for PR - unless you were on a Mac, in which case you need to do it manually, as there is no Mac Toolbar..... My question is: How do you check your PR manually?

I'd be most grateful for any help in this direction.

See the little green bars next to the listings in directory.google.com? ;) Green bar = approximate pagerank.

If you do a site search (link at the top of the page here) for 'directory pagerank google' you should find all sorts of into about the specifics.

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, pj. A couple of quick notes about Directory PR. First, the scale is different. Second, it works only for the site, not for individual pages. Third, the last time I checked, the Directory was still waiting for a new dump from DMOZ, and was some months out of date.

Advice: Get a cheap PC - you can use it to check PR, as well as how pages display on PCs (assuming you do web work, and want to know what 95% of a site's visitors will see). You don't need anything fancy, even a model from a few years ago will be able to run the full variety of browsers. Someone's discard may be fine.

Our FOO thread on Dumpster Diving [webmasterworld.com] may give you some ideas along those lines... ;)

I'd like to see an Apple commercial that says something along the lines of...

"I switched from a PC to Mac and love it! Unfortunately, I still have to use the old PC to check my PageRank on Google".
