Today I was looking through my log files as I always do and found a URL apparently from a Google search that, unlike others that I have seen, automatically redirects to my page for some reason. It is of the form....
http://www.google.com/url?sa=U&start=1&q=http://www.domain.comm&e=269
The "www.domain.comm" is purely fictional but that is where my url would go.
Normally when I copy and paste such URL's into my browser I am taken to a page of results from which a visitor came. At Google itself. But not this one.
When entered into my browser the above link just redirects to my site.
Weird.
Does anyone know if this something new that Google is doing? Or maybe not even Google related?
Maybe Google is using this to smoke out those who cloak or something. I don't know. My site doesn't cloak but did at one time use what may have been seen as duplicate content. I used to have links on each of my pages that would include the words "small" or "large" allowing someone to change the size of the displayed page. The rest of the URL was the same. I use cookies now but perhaps Google saw that and is trying to see if I am spamming or something...?
Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Carlos
You can tell someone searched for your domain name by looking at the query - The string following "q=" is what the person searched for.
Then - and this is just a guess - maybe they clicked on the "I'm feeling lucky" button on the Google search page.
Try entering your domain name in the Google search box and clicking on the "Lucky" button. Then check your logs and see if the referring URL looks like what you got the first time. If so, copy it into your address bar and try it - It should also redirect to your site if my theory holds.
