Good approach or not?

I run a directory of widgets site. Based on what many experienced people suggested here I've added a lot more content (more detailed widgets descriptions) than it used to be. It's all great and users love it as well however I faced the following problem: pages are become too large (~50Kb).
The pages I'm talking about represents widget type pages and can not be splited down in a logical way. They also optimised as much as I can for their size (no unnessessary graphics, minimalistic design e.t.c.)
I'm considering to chop those pages into smaller ones with navigation between them (page1, page2, page3...).
However I have some concerns.
1. I'm not sure it's convinient for users.
2. possible negative effect on PR.
3. it appearing to me that first pages will always have higher PR than other pages (because they have incoming links both internal and external and other dont except between each other)
3. increasing number of pages on my site a lot (up to ~1500) put me into the risk of not beeing fully crawled by Google.

Please share your opinion on this approach.

Not a problem.

Advantages; more urls, titles, anchor text, and pictures to feed the spider, increased chance of hitting more combinations of multi-word search phrases

Hi TylerDurden,

One school of thought suggests that you should pyramid your information. kinda like this:

Scanning Content
More specific More Specific
Very Detailed Very Detailed Very Detailed

Take a look at the Theme Pyramid [searchengineworld.com]. This concept applies equally to users as well as search engines...

It is build like a pyramid. Thanks WebmasterWorld - I used a lot of ideas from WebmasterWorld for this site.
But pages I'm talking about are at bottom level of pyramid - they are specific and targeting particular keyword each.

So far nobody thinks it's a problem to chop - apparently I'm getting to paranoid about Google, PR e.t.c. :)

Chop em up.

If each page is focussed on a particular keyphrase, it also gives you the advantage of being able to play with densities and possibly give you a better range of cover in a few search engines, eg:

One page with keyphrase density 14% becomes three pages with densities 8%, 11% and 14%

Gives you some insurance against Google algo shifts, and may also help give you some better exposure in other SEs that like a higher/lower density, while maintaining good positioning with Google.
