Hello,
This Saturday I built a few brand new pages uploaded them and when I checked them, they all had a PR4.

I check this from different computers, just in case.

Instantly? Google does not even know about these pages yet.

Thanks.

Phil,

Guessed PR at work.

check to see if they have any "backlinks" and you will notice NO.

so its guessed PR based on the rest of the site methinks.

I had a site that got indexed by google and got a pr 6 with no backlinks, but it droped the next month to pr 5 and the last update got a gray bar.

The PR is usually adopted from the page above in the directory structure, measured from the root - 1.

So if your home page had a PR5 then any new pages linked directly off the root page will adopt a PR4. Obviously, as Google don't know about the page then it's not a true rank, it's an estimate.
