Is there hope for a site that was down?

My site, which had PR6, was down a couple of weeks (yes, I know, this was my negligence, but I was busy doing what the site advertises that I didn't have time to find a new host - my old host went bankrupt). Now that I have it back up (under a different host), my PR is down to 4. Since PR is on a logarithmic scale, this is a drop to one one-hundreth of what it was!

Will my PR get restored normally? In how long? Will there be long term penalties? Is there anything I can do about this?

Also, I'm planning on changing the domain name, and using a HTTP header to redirect (same IP, different Host: field). Will this have any effect on this?

Your Pagerank can be down for several reasons after weeks out of the index.

- did you loose backlinks? (amongst others because of being off-line)
- did the PR of the backlinks'pages change?
- did you change the internal flow of links and backlinks to your index page?
- did Google still index the same amount of pages of your site as beforehand?

Since PR is on a logarithmic scale, this is a drop to one one-hundreth of what it was!

the log scale is another discussion..
also you could have gone from a low PR6 to a high PR4

on the redirects; a site search should give some answers to that.
