After the last re-indexing I dropped from 8 to 30 on my best keyword. My pagerank went up from a 6 to 7 and the additional 15 or so links I had submitted (about 4 weeks ago) have not show up on googles backlinks.

This was a major dissapointment. Does anyone know how a such a drastic drop is possible?

Also, we have the opportunity to purchase a site that holds #1 and #2 positions for our best keywords. If we bought this site (which has had these positions for several months now) and dont change it, but link it to ours, what are the chances that it will remain in those high positions and will it help our positioning?

I would appreciate any help...you can email me if you need any additional information.
Thanks

How would you plan on linking those sites to yours? Are those affiliate sites?

Buy it. Don't change a thing. Worry about the details later.

The site is not currently functioning as an ecommerce site yet, just collecting information. We would add links to all the product images and direct them to our site...we would do nothing to change the integrity of the site just add links to ours.

Sounds perfect. Buy it, keep it as an informational site, then sponsor it with your ecom site. Even sell ads to your competitors. Works for me.

Talismon,

First off, welcome to WebmasterWorld.

If the money is available, buy it.

The site has solid positioning in the SERPs, a good PR and the domain name is well suited for your industry.

Seems like the logical choice to me.

DONT BUY just because it is ranked high in goolge..thats LOUSY reasoning.. Look ..here you are upset because Google dropped your site in ranking..

Here's the clue..as soon as you buy it THe LINKS that are pointing to this high ranking site will start drying up and it drops from #1 #2 to page 50 ..

Let me ask you this.. can this "new" site bring in traffic on TRUE type-ins.. in other words is it a high powered keyword that people will "type-in" their browser whether it is ranked in google or not?

example Cars.com high pwered ..it dont need no stinking se ..becuase thosands of people "type in" cars.com in their url bar every day.

If thats the case..if it is a site with a high powered domain ..you are probably Ok..

If Not .. what is their ROI for PAYING for position in adwords or oveture etc.. is it profitable no matter the size of traffic..

Make a business decision on much much more than were a site ranks in google on any given day..PLEASE..
