PR from 6 to 5 = better rankings?

Why?

Before the Dec dance, my PR was 6 and for a search on "keyword1 keyword2 keyword3" my site is at #11 in the SERPS. After the dance, PR dropped to 5 but SERPS for the same search places the site at #5.

Am I missing something here? Anyone experience similar in the past?

Yup, I've had similar stuff happen to me. A site with 6 went to 5 for only one month but nothing changed in the SERPs. The key phrases are usually #1 or 2 but they didn't drop the slightest.
Congratulations to the new SERP!

I had a site of mine drop from a PR5 to a 3. But the Google referrals are up higher than ever before.

I still would like to get a higher PR though!

I have noticed more of a "glass ceiling" for groups of sites.

For example if you have a site for an individual hotel, then there is a limit now (apparently) to the PR that will be awarded to that site. Very few individual hotels get PR6 or more. But the better optimised site will still do well on serps, even if its PR is down from 6 to 5.

My site was PR5 before this dance and now its PR4. Yet ranking for a competitve 2 word keyword is up 3 notches.

I think Google is reducing PRs across the board so SERPs don't change.

Like to hear what others here are experiencing though.
