Don't know if this one has been picked up on when it was in NY Times, but it has been put online in Melbourne's The Age..

It's not as big of a thrill as seeing Google's realtime searches,
but if you want to actually see something similar to Google's live query,
MetaSpy has been open to the public for years now:

seems alot of people still use Metacrawler ([metacrawler.com ]) -aV-
