Recently, there was a post regarding whether people counted on Google for traffic... while we dont rely on them per se, we are finding that they affect our traffic the most... more than twice the next SE referrals.
(no info to identify what was searched for or for what site... but it is all for the same site)
Hope some people find it interesting. We submit to all the search engines equally through 2 submission services (except alltheweb which we submit to by hand).
Here's a sample of our referrer counts:
Google 12486
Yahoo 6242
MSN 5283
AOL 1471
AltaVista 560
Overture 298
Comcast 279
Lycos 253
eHotelier 198
cometsystems 163
search.new.net 123
AT&T 90
CompuServe 86
Bonzi 84
GGL Directory 46
alltheweb 43
ask.com 31
Vivisimo 28
Verizon 28
DMOZ 19
MOZ Directory 17
Stats over a 3 month period, referrers from websites not included (just counting search engine stats... 2 of our website referrers though are near or at AltaVista's traffic) Also not counting any referrers less than 17.
Google is King, MSN is increasing rapidely, Yahoo is still a major force. AOL is still in the pits, given its user base, and the other aren't really worth losing much sleep over.
Go MSN, GO AV, GO Fast....I keep singing that tune in hope it may come true someday soon and distribute the power a little more evenly.
I Don't want all these eggs in one basket! Yahoo becoming Inktomi only will certainly help distribute the load ;)
