When does google re-index?

Is there a faq available on when google re-indexes
occur? Surely there must be very clear indicators
that a re-index (even algo change) will happen?

What is the significance of www2, www3 etc...?
Is there historical information available?

I think I could get more useful information from
a Occult Book on how Astrology Works or something,
it's like Black Magic currently....

Anyone up for creating "real" useful google faq?
Google seem to be turning in the Microsoft of search engines, I mean have employees signed a secrecy oath
until they die or something? Whatever happened in Industrial Espionage?
