Anybody know why Google.ru looks completely different from Google.com?

Is it really google or are they illegally using google results to sell advertising on their home page?

I'd be willing to bet the farm that this has nothing to do with Google.

When you do a search from the home page it takes you to Google, simply adding 'ru' to the url to designate the language. Directory stuff goes to another site.

Domain owned by somebody in Moscow, must be one of the partnership deals that you need to set up in order to do business there. Or the portal look might be a sign of things to come after the IPO.

By the way, I just found out that www2.google.com can't handle searches in cyrillic characters. Cool.
