Google API and special characters (ñ, ó)

I wish I found the solution for my problems with Google API and special characters.

I succeeded in doing some searches with the google api and Perl ('SOAP::Lite' module).

But I would like to search words with acute accents (in French or Spanish), and show results also with these special characters.

I tried changing 'ie' and 'oe' values into 'iso-8859-1' or 'latin1', but spanish words are not recognized and I get extrange results ('Español').

Does anybody have any experience? Thank you very much and HAPPY NEW YEAR.

I seem to recall a post about this in the google api usenet group. I just looked and couldn't come up with it out of the groups search, but I think it's there.

Hey dirson, I ran this by a friend of mine at Google and got a bit of information for you. The APIs changed in August to support "special characters" (which aren't so special if you're French or Spanish). All queries are now in UTF-8. Details are here:
