I am very interested in seeing the Google update happen to see where I rank. It seems other people are waiting on it for other reasons(maybe, Maybe Not).I was wondering is there some kind of optimization that that they do during the dance of immediatley after?

Sorry if this is not a good question, just learning....

From what I can gather, a deep crawl usually starts right after the update.

No, they're just palpitating with anticipation.

The update tells you:

1. If you are still in the Google index for your phrases.

2. How many new links you have to your site.

3. Your new PageRank.

4. Whether your competitors have got the better of you.

Its a scary time.

I am always kinda curious... because though we have a backup server, I usually play with our live site, so I like to know when our next increase in traffic will be (every keyword and page optimization has produced 50-100% gains - and instead of sacrificing content to do it, we're adding more relevant content and re-arranging key sentences).

It's also nice to have an optimization like that ready before the deep crawl.

Not that I know of. In my experience you want all your “optimizing” done before the dance starts.

Or if you are a sadist, you can spend your time watching the anguish in the update thread, which is far more entertaining.

Also if you are adding new content and hope to have it in the Google SERPs within the next 2 months, you need to get it online before the deepcrawl which usually happens right during/after the update. So people may be madly working to get new changes made/content added before the update starts.

The update will also get rid of all the old pre-improved pages of mine showing in the serp's along with the new improved versions. I changed titles while the freshbot was hitting me and for some results I'm now # 1 & 2 for the same page with old cache and new cache.

Yes, we balance our checkbooks and reoptimize this years budget ;-)

I love waking up to a three page thread on the latest update!
One of the advantages of living on the "wrong" side of the pond I suppose.

I use the presence of the thread as a barometer -if it hits 150 posts in short order then it's likely we're in a real update. Then I go check a few of my domains.

I wanted to ask this question myself.

Is it possible that by clicking on the Cache link in www2 and www3 you can see what your page looked like 1 month ago - the actual page indexed. You have probably forgotten what it was like before this months changes

This archive is brilliant! WOW. just looking at my competitors sites in 1999 is killing me and making the pain of waiting for the G Update go away.
