I have a new site (6 weeks old) that shows up as PR0 - I haven't done anything to get penalized that I know of, I was deep crawled the first week of December and have had many visits by the Freshbot. Is the PR0 in this case just indicating that I am new or not yet ranked rather than penalized?

Welcomw to WebmasterWorld instabill,

You probably don't have enough links to get anything higher than a zero. It is highly doubtful your site has been penelized. Work on getting links from high PR sites to boost it.

You are too new. In fact I am surprised that you come up as a PR0 instead of a grey bar.

To be in the current index, your site had to be up and have incoming links in the first week in November. The main crawl during the first week in December is for the update at the end of December. It takes google that long to run all the calculations on 4 billion pages.

The reason that you are already showing up is that the freshbot is finding you. The fact that freshbot is making it to your site means that you have some good incoming links already. I would bet that you debut at PR4-5 or higher.

Ignore your computer for a week or so, then come back anc find out how your site did.

At this point, I'd have to suggest you just wait out the update. Once that is finished, you'll likely have a real PR to reference and you'll probably get lots of referrals from Google. Then the real game begins for you!

You might well find your way into the permanent index but be stuck with a "PR0" 'til the following big update, at which time the PR gets calculated. It has happened to me a few times.

Thanks for the replies. Pretty much what I figured but wanted some reassurance.

Beachboy,

How long were you stuck with the PR0?
