how many words can you put in a picture and still have googlebot read it?

I see some sites with 5 or 10 words in a picture and others with much more(the words just frash up real quick and then there gone)is there a limit on what googlebot can read?

Hi teeceo, I don't know if the robot has a limit; if you find pages with long alt texts then you may be able to tell from the Google listing's snippet.

If the image says "contact" or is a picture of your cat, then alt="red widget red widgets blue widget blue widgets yellow widget yellow widgets green widget green widgets white widget white widgets..." isn't going to endear you to a human review IMO.
