For the last three months up until yesterday my site was the number one site for the search term(s) I optimized my site for. Now it is on page 3 or worse. I still have a PR of 4 and the other sites that are higher ranked now are not new or "improved" or of higher PR. What happened? I have done no tricks. How did I fall out of grace? Is there any way I can correct this?

strange that suddenly happened yesterday, if you were first page, number one for three months. Normally such dramatic changes happen with the updates.
Are you sure nothing strange was going on with your site and someone reported you?

The only thing that might be considered unusual is that my sight uses frames. I don't know if this is part of the problem. I see other framed sights high in the rankings.
