PR0 Linking to me.

Will it hurt?

A year ago, i designed and promoted a site for a friend. It did well and i think came top 5 for most of the needed keyphrases.

I added the URL to all of the relevant directories i could find to get some incoming links.

I have just checked some incoming links using AllTheWeb and one of the directories that had added my site is now a PR0. This directory does have lots of incoming links so it is obviously a penalty.

Will this be having a negative effect on the website being that it is being linked to by a PR0?

If so, how can we avoid such problems in the future? It looked like a straight-up directory to me - and didnt have a PR0 at the time of submitting.

Somebody just submitted one of my websites to a new directory. I think that it was done as a friendly gesture, but if that directory had been penalised, some competitor might have submitted my site to get me penalised too. Do you think that Google would let competitors get an advantage that way? I don't. Take it easy. They will not penalise you for somebody else linking to you.

I think that most PR0 sites are that way because they're either new, or are just not important enough to have much in terms of PageRank.

As it stands you're not supposed to be hurt by someone else linking to you. Now if you link to the penalized site(bad neighborhood) then you could possibly be hurt

troels nybo nielsen, good thinking - i think (and hope) you're on the money

petertdavis, this is clearly an established directory, 100s of links
