cut and paste, links to your site?

Ok has anyone considered what happens if you do this?

You go to google directory, find the top 20 pageranked sites in the category of your own site, and then slap on these links on your links page and also at the bottom(side) of all your pages.

First of all, will this increase your pagerank and secondly will it help you be found in the SERPs?

I'm assuming those 20 sites don't link your site, if they did it would be even better right?

Only having pages linking to you will boost your pagerank. Linking to them can't raise your PR.

Linking to relevant pages might help in the search results by establishing that you're relevant, although I suspect 20 links is a lot to have on your index page.

If you could get them to link back it would be ideal = pagerank boost plus relevance boost.
