I have an interesting situation. I have a site, we can call it "www.widgets.net." This site is just one page that leads to 50 other sites (it currently has a PR of 5). For example, "www.widget-green.com" & "www.widget-red.com". Well, they were all the same design and crosslinked so about 40 of them were given a penalty when google changed their format last year (we were on the first page for almost all our sites prior to this so our overall traffic dropped about 55% compared to last November). We kept about 15 .Com's (10 that were not penalized and 5 that had great links) but we changed the other 35 sites from "www.widget-green.com" to "www.widgets.net/green" to avoid the penalty and created a 301-redirect (but kept the same design).
However, over two months have gone by and about 35 of them are still under penalty. The other non - .Com sites are PR's of 1 & 2's but the majority of the . Com's are PR 3's and 4's but our best content/link popularity sites have PR's of 1 & 2's. They are listed in Yahoo!, dmoz and zeal as well. We have been around since 1998 and removed any Spam that might of been hurting us 11 months ago...does anyone have any explanations on why some of our sites are penalized and why some are not...or why our best .Com sites are struggling while the others are not? Thanks in advance for any feedback and suggestions!

Actually, all our main pages have the same wording except for a few keywords. For example, instead of "blue widget," it will say "green stick" but everything surrounding those keywords are pretty much the same on each page. However, all the content following those pages are completely different...do you think the problem is with the main pages having similar wording?
