Does anyone know why Google is tracking clicks for certain keywords and not others, example (seen from uk):

Google.com hotel sheffield
[google.com ]

Google.com web
[google.com ]

The first one gives links that go through Google first, the second one doesn't?

Can't see what you are talking about. Are you sure you didn't put your cursor over the google directory link and just assume you see tracking?

Positive, here's the page as seen from here:

[miswebdesign.com ]

To moderator: If that's in violation of the TOS how do I achieve this?

Hey, it's their engine, they can do what they like, do you mind! :)
It's probably to do all kinds of research on user behaviour in realtion to all kinds of stuff like Geography, Ads, clicking on no.1, 2,3 etc.
I really don't think they are using it to rate a site(ie. how much time a user spends on each site). Google is pretty candid about the factors that go into their algo., and so far they haven't ever mentioned anything in that regard.
