Google boosting PR for some sites?

I just spent 3 hours browsing sites whose PR I could recall. I've noticed that many of them had their PR raised by one. This includes my site as well. Neither I nor other sites had any noticeable difference in back links.

Is it possible that with so many new pages and sites added last two updates that Google had artificially boosted some sites PR?

yes - mine too. From 5 to 6 with LESS backlinks. Could be that you have new links with from sites with more PR but it does seem to have gone up accross the board doesnt it?

Dmoz is back to 10 from 9

<added>positions are no better though:)</added>

pr is nothing but a number:)

That is because your competitors PR were boosted as well :)

I also have seen many more sites (compared to past updates) which gained PR.

Google boozing? Why not, it's time for x-mas parties to start anyway!

I've had site jump from pr1 to pr5 this week.

The site hasn't been promoted for over 2 years.

The only new link is a link from a pr3 site that has just been indexed for the first time.

The pr on the other incoming links hasn't changed - there are only 2.

The site has just been updated, but google hasn't reindexed it yet.

No idea why the pr5 happened, but I am certainly not complaining :)

My PR is steady, but over position for same keywords is worse this month.

Seems like Google has tweaked something in it's algo. Not all are better off :(

Got a 2 up to a 4, and a 4 to a 5 (but this one is only a few months old and only had 2 inbound links for the 4!).

I had a slight drop for a few articles last month, but I think that was due to a few more pages in my keyword area, I updated the page got a link or two for the pages and they came up smelling sweetly again, I try and do that once a week now :)

im seeing more traffic on a newer site.

And on my older one, there has been a constant increase in traffic for the past 5 months. Position has remained the same, but you cant really get any higher than number one! ;)

Cant say i really noticed much of a difference in the past few months. Same trend all the way.

yes, the site i mentioned above has gone from 20+ to top 5.

It is a fairly specific keyword set, very regionalised, although it is getting top 10 for non-regionalised searches.

The new pr3 site i mentioned is getting similar positions for the same searches (the sites are on the same topic).
