PR fall down twice in last 6 month, inspite of increased backward links.

My page rank fall down twice in last 6 month (from 7 to 4)inspite of adding more backward link. We are into reciprocal linking with relevant sites. In this process we some time link unrelated sites also. Our link pages are long and contain varied links form different sites.

Is there any chances of google thinking them as link farm, or I had accidentally linked any link farm.

In any case should I block my link pages form robots.txt to encounter the penalty (f any).

If you use a robots.text you may lose important (relevant) links.
Your experience seems to show unrelated links may be worse then useless from a PR point of view.
A number of sites I keep a beady eye on have been showing decreasing links from G in the last two updates, and the lost links were non-relevant ones.

So Google removes non-relevant links? Happened to one website I'm working on, too, maybe it was some non-relevant links that got dropped.

But a competitor signed a lot of guestbooks and tripled his link numbers in Google... this sucks!

Kindly explain how blocking my own link page, which have a very low PR would harm me.

Those reciprocal links partners might be displeased if you try this trick.
