Would you prefer to search for English results only?

I just saw this on a goole results page. Have not noticed this before, is it something new or do I need to open my eyes from time to time?

I haven't seen it. Were you searching from the main Google site?

I feel really stupid not copying the link and pasting it into the message. I can not seem to reproduce it either now. Will keep on looking for it... My guess is that it will be there after the Nov update finishes.

Now that would certainly be an interesting step to take for Google. Have been expecting them to do that for a long time.

What about pages with content in more than one language? At the moment Google provides a "translate this page" link even if half the content is English. Would this mean that the page would be excluded from an English-only search?

If you want an example:

[google.com...]

"Would you prefer to search for English results only", on this sentence, there is a link to

[google.com...]

and indeed, results are not the same.

I clicked on that link, and didn't get "Would you prefer to search for English results only".

Maybe it depends of your own language, I'm French and it's logical that this sentence does not appear for the English speaking countries. What's your opinion? Or maybe this is "rotative" link?

I've tried the links again, and it's ok from here for now.

I am from Canada, I get the message with this one [google.com] and that one [google.com].

Obviously not English words... but cookies are set for an English interface. When I switch cookies to a French interface, the message is gone.

I am posting from Michigan in the US. Cookies are set for English preference. I don't get that message with either link Macguru provided.

It's up for me, located in Germany.
What I meant anyhow when I said I had been waiting for that was search engines giving this option to english speaking users...similar to the option for each other local Google, where options are all results vs results in local language.

I can see Macguru's results too.

If you want an example:
[google.com...]

I can see the "Would you prefer to search for English results only?" link.

I have my preferences set to "any language." If I change my preference to "english" the link vanishes, which makes sense.

Excuse me. I just checked my preference. They are for any language, and I still don't get that. However, I did get "Would you prefer to search for English results only?" when I use anonymizer.com.

Lets all try to keep searches in any language and play with the interface language only then.

I been playing with the search results...
Google Preferences:
My interface language is English
Search for pages written in any language
Use moderate filtering.

I seem to get the English only choice if the first page of results contains a web site written in a language other than english. Or maybe if the page contains characters that I can not display. I have seen it most with Japanese sites. If the first page contains French or German, it does not give me the choise....

Example, search on 'imode', or 'docomo', or 'vous le vous'. First two give the option, the second, returning pages all in French, no English only option.

( it's kewl to start a thread that people actually post to :) )
