I have finally given up on my hosting company and intend to get a new host tomorrow. Would someone please be kind enough to point in the direction of where I can find info on the proper "Google friendly" way to migrate to a new hosting company?

Thanks in advance.

Right now would be a very good time to move your site to a new host. Soon as the DNS catches up, resubmit it to Google. It's worked well for me so far, no site has yet been dropped for a month using this approach. Right now Ms. Googlebot is in quiet mode, so make the move ASAP. This window of opportunity might change in a couple of days.

There's only one easy way... keep two copies of your site running concurrently at both hosts. This will give no chance for Google to miss your site.

Old habits die hard. And does anyone really know for sure it's of no use?

If you have enough cash get a dedicated server.
