Need some answers and tips

Hi everyone,

as a new seo I have a couple of questions concerning Google.

1- First how long does it really take google to reindex a site? I modified the site at the beginning of october , googlebot came by but the old title is still the one used in the google result page.

2- Is there a way to get a nice description to google? I noticed that google uses the first text of the page to create a description but I have a menu and that is the part used for the description.

3- I have hiden links to sitemaps ( different sitemaps for different engins, linking to optimized htm pages (the site only uses asp)) but my robots.txt tell googlebot not to index those pages. Is that still a difinite no-no?

4- making a list of abreviations used in the forums would be nice also. make it available at the root of the forum. Not everyone is used to those abreviations.

It takes anywhere from 30 to 60 days. Specifically, it takes 30 days from the time your new content is found by Google's deep-crawler. If you submit just before the deep-crawl, it will take about 30 days. If you submit just after the monthly deep-crawl, the it will take 30 from the next deep-crawl. Google's "fresh-bot" may pick up the changes temporarily, but the new listings are likely to pop in and out of Google's index. You can only really count on the deep-crawl.

2- Is there a way to get a nice description to google? I noticed that google uses the first text of the page to create a description but I have a menu and that is the part used for the description.

Google will use your ODP description, plus a "snippet", sometimes called "a ransom note". Your best bet is to get a good description in the Open Directory Project directory.

Cloaking and hidden links are a no-no for Google.
