how does the fresh google bot find me?

How does the fresh bot (or whatever is the real name for the bot that searches for fresh sites on a daily basis) find my site, do I have to hand submit it to google or is it just a matter of getting found by the bot by following links to my site?

The bot will follow links to your site.

From my experience: the higher the PR of the page where you get a link to a new page, the higher the chances that fresh bot will find that new page.
Most of my newest sites/pages were crawled after being listed in pages with PR4 and higher.

Newbie questions about this.

If the fresh bot visits my page, will what it finds change my place in the SERPS immediately (or in a day or so)? Or will my position in results (and the cache) remain the same till the next dance?

I have a PR4 and high content. i am positioned well with my KW, but my position in search results NEVER changes between dances, despite the fact that my content and pages change almost every day.
