Do browser checks affect Googlebot?

My site performs a javascript browser check to see if you are running an old browser upon visiting (to make sure my style sheets are viewed properly). Does this affect Googlebot? My pages seem to be indexed just fine, but I'm not 100% sure I do not get penalized. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

AFAIK, no search engine spiders can parse JavaScripts. So I believe there is not direct negative impact. If you are just serving different CSS files according to browser, I never heard of any kind of penality for this.

mattglet, as stated by Macguru, i wouldn't worry, you are not the only one using it, i would estimate that there is millions of pages using this.
