Does link text count as words on a page...?

If i have : Monkey on a page - google will see that and somewhere in the list if someone types in monkey my page will pop up...

what if its : <a href="monkeypage.htm">Monkey</a> ?

will it still show up as "text/content/words" or is link text treated only as such...?

Yes Harley, words in link text do count.

In your example, both the page with the link and the page it links to will come up for a search of 'monkey'.
