Would changing hosts from Canada to US help?

Would changing from a Canadian host to a US host help for a site which is in a competitive market and is geared towards US audiences?

As per Google results, it consideres the site to be in Canada. If I move to a US host will it help in getting Google to consider it in US?

Is it worth the effort to move the hosts? Should I expect the rankings to move up in Google.com if I do?

I think it would be worth the time. As long as your whois info is US based, and you don't have "Canada" in the title of every page :-)
