Extrapolating traffic from linkpopularity

Does anyone know a rough formula for estimating traffic to a domain name based on its link popularity, page rank, or fact that its listed in yahoo or dmoz? I read such a formula somewhere (something involving dividing by 2 but beats me!) Would it be a poor estimate to say that the expected traffic is the same order as the link popularity?

e.g. 10^3 links = 10^3 hits? how can this estimate be more accurate? Note, I have no way of getting stats on the domain ahead of time.

No such general formula can exist. There are too many factors influencing the algorithm for a formula to apply across all categories.

Right. And, one prominent link on a high traffic page relevant to the topic of your site can be worth hundreds of links on minor pages on unrelated sites.
